How is Blairsville School of Dance different from other studios in the area?
BSOD tailors its classes to what today’s dance students want. In addition to offering the only private and group lessons in ballroom and Latin, we also offer ballet, hip hop, jazz, creative movement, tap, combination classes and clogging. We are the only group in the area offering a competitive clogging program, and we offer a competitive hip hop program.
What is clogging?
Clogging is a lively dance with roots in English country dances, Scottish dances, Irish jig and African dance. It is a percussive dance where dancers tap out rhythms with their feet. These dances melted together into clogging when settlers to the Southern Appalachian area brought their own dances to what was a relatively isolated part of the country.
What is precision clogging?
Precision clogging means all the dancers are doing the same step and the same time, usually in a choreographed routine.
What style of clogging does Blairsville School of Dance teach?
BSoD teaches both precision routines, as well as allowing an outlet to perform freestyle. In addition to traditional clogging routines, BSOD infuses jazz and hip-hop in its modern clogging routines. We teach Appalachian style clogging, as well as buck and percussive step dancing.
Does Blairsville School of Dance offer classes for adults?
Yes—BSOD offers adult clogging, ballet, hip hop, ballroom and Latin dance. Check the Calendar page for upcoming dates and times.
Do I need a partner to take the ballroom dance classes?
No partner is necessary for our ballroom or Latin classes!
How old does my child need to be to take classes at Blairsville School of Dance?
BSOD offers a Creative Movement class for students beginning at age 2. Students may begin combination classes at age 4.
What performance opportunities are available at Blairsville School of Dance? BSOD offers students chances to perform at local festivals and events, as well as opportunities at regional competitions. We also have a recital in the spring with an opportunity for both children and adults to perform.
How can I get involved in the competition program?
Students are required to audition or be chosen to advance from their current class. Those interested in joining the competition group that lack the skill to advance may take private lessons to learn the steps and to gain the confidence needed to succeed in the competition program.
