Frequently Asked Questions

How is Blairsville School of Dance different from other studios in the area?

Quality and community are the focus at Blairsville School of Dance.

Quality—Our teachers are all adults who excel in their fields of dance. As dance is a constantly changing and innovative art form, we require all our teachers to continue their training by attending classes and workshops throughout the year, so that we may continue providing a superior, well-rounded dance education.

Community—At BSoD, in addition to offering a top-quality dance education, we also provide additional social opportunities for our students. Many parents are not only looking for superior dance training for their children, but also a chance for them to socialize and gain friends. We pride ourselves on making new students a part of the BSoD family. With optional trips to conventions, workshops, and dance performances, as well as studio parties, participation in parades and Parents’ Nights Out, there are many opportunities for students to socialize outside of class.

How can Blairsville School of Dance provide such a quality experience at a price more affordable than other area studios?

There is a belief among dance studios that consumers will believe the quality of an education is reflected in the price; therefore, it is best to be the most expensive studio. The desire to be the most costly has driven the tuition prices in the area higher and higher. Many of the nation’s most renowned studios in affluent areas have tuition prices lower than our local studios. With the average income significantly less than the national average, why should the local prices for dance education be higher than in many major metropolitan areas? At Blairsville School of Dance, we believe consumers know better than to fall for pricing gimmicks, and we do not need inflated tuition prices to prove our commitment to quality. Visit our studio, located in the Merchant’s Walk Plaza across from the Blairsville Police Department. Take a tour, try a class or just ask questions about our programs. Come see for yourself why BSoD is the area’s fastest growing studio.

What can I expect my child to learn at Blairsville School of Dance?

BSoD tailors its classes to what today’s dance students want and what discerning parents expect. At BSoD, you will not find a teenager teaching your child’s class. All our teachers are carefully screened professionals.  We do offer our teenagers an opportunity to gain classroom teaching experience by assisting in our youth classes along with a qualified adult teacher.

In addition to offering the only private and group lessons in ballroom and Latin, we also offer ballet, hip hop, jazz, lyrical, creative movement, tap, combination classes and clogging.

All our classes are taught utilizing a syllabus, which outlines what a student should learn throughout the course of the dance year.

I’ve heard about the importance of flooring in a dance studio. What does Blairsville School of Dance have?

You may have read the importance of having sprung or floating floors to provide the best dance surface and minimize injuries. At BSoD, we have 4600 square feet of studio space, and in the best interest of our dancers, all three of our studios feature sprung, floating floors.

Does Blairsville School of Dance offer classes for adults?

Yes—BSOD offers adult clogging, ballet, hip hop, ballroom and Latin dance. Check the Calendar page for upcoming dates and times.

What performance opportunities are available at Blairsville School of Dance?

BSOD offers students chances to perform at local festivals and events, as well as opportunities at regional competitions. We receive the most performance request for our clogging teams. Last year, they participated in 8 performances. The other dance classes had opportunities to perform at 2-3 community events. We also have a recital in the spring with an opportunity for both children and adults to perform, as well as a Christmas production for December 2009. Though we believe performance is an important component of a thorough dance education, participation is optional.

How can I get involved in the competition program?

Students are required to audition or be chosen to advance from their current class. Those interested in joining the competition group that lack the skill to advance may take private lessons to learn the steps and to gain the confidence needed to succeed in the competition program.

The BSoD Force advanced clogging team participates in 6-8 competitions a season. Our intermediate clogging team will participate in 4-6 for the 2009-10 season.

Our BSoD Fire advanced teen small group will compete 2-3 times in 2009-10, with the rest of our competition groups attending 1-2 events.
