Competition Groups

Blairsville School of Dance currently has 5 competition hip hop groups: the BSoD Embers (6 and under), the BSoD Sparks (7-9), the BSoD Flames (10-13), the BSoD Inferno (15-18) and the BSoD Fire (teen small group). Auditions for the Sparks, Flames, Fire and Inferno are held in the fall. The BSoD Embers do not audition, and it is open to all interested children ages 6 and under.

Auditions to join the BSoD Force competition clogging team are held by appointment. The BSoD Force is an advanced clogging team that competes between 6-8 times a year throughout the southeast, performs locally and attends workshop and conventions. The BSoD Power is an intermediate level team that competes 4-6 times per year and is open to clogging students who show an aptitude for the competition routines.

Our competition students are expected to attend extra practices as needed.

What is required to participate in the competition groups?

The most important requirement to join our groups is a commitment. In addition to weekly practices, our groups, especially the clogging teams, have extra practices throughout the year. Oftentimes, they are long practices. Missing practices or competitions for other activities is not permitted, as the team counts on the hard work of each of its members. We understand students have many school demands placed on them and many activities they wish to pursue. We fully support a well-rounded and balanced life and will work with our students whenever possible. If other extra-curricular or social activities take precedence over practices however, we encourage students to stick with our very well-respected recreational program.

What is the cost for participating in the competition groups?

Competition students do have a regular weekly practice. The regular tuition rates apply for the weekly class. There is no charge for the extra practices. Students are not required to take more than one class a week. Though we do encourage our clogging students to also take hip-hop to help with the contemporary clogging, it is not required.

Competition clogging students have to pay for their costumes, entry fees, and travel to competitions. We also prefer our competition students have a BSoD warm-up suit. We wear them to competitions, and often use them for local performances.

Competition hip hop students usually wear their recital costume, but they are still responsible for entry fees and travel expenses to the competition.

Our competition students are also encouraged to attend dance conventions. Fund-raising opportunities are available to help cover costs for all competition program activities, however, the student is required to participate in the fund-raising efforts.
